Step and Repeat

Step and repeat guide

What is Step and Repeat?

Step and repeat is a repeated logo pattern – the logos are presented in a straight line or consistent line, with each subsequent line being indented so that the pattern is staggered. You do also see examples of designs where the logos are aligned vertically and horizontally.

The design will depend on factors such as the size and shape of the logos being used.

Where are Step and Repeat designs used?

Step and repeat designs are usually used as photography backdrops on banners to promote an event and sponsors. You will regularly find them at red carpet events, press events, or more commonly as interview backdrops in sporting events. We’ve even created one for a birthday party!

What is a Step and Repeat Banner?

A step and repeat banner is simply another phrase for a ‘step and repeat backdrop’. The term banner is used generically and not in a specific way.

The banner itself can be made from PVC or polyester fabric. PVC graphics can be hung on frames or supplied within a base unit (as a pop up banner). Polyester fabric graphics need to suspend on a frame, such as our step and repeat banner backdrop.

How to choose your step and repeat backdrop

1. Consider the size of backdrop you need

How many people will be standing in front of the backdrop? How large is the area you will be situated in?

We have recommended a number of widths and the number of people that can comfortably stand in front of different sized backdrops below. We assumed some space between each person in our graphics, but it is highly likely that your audience will be closer together.

2. Consider how many events you will be attending

If you’re attending multiple events and you need to change the graphic for more than one, that’s great! You can change the graphics on all of our backdrops with the exception of the 2m roller banner.

The others are very simple to change and can be done in minutes. Designs can be interchanged depending on your requirements.

Creating your Step and Repeat graphic

The graphics for your step and repeat backdrop are easy to create, but it can be time consuming.

Follow these simple tips to help you create an effective backdrop display:

  • Alignment – ensure that all of the logos are aligned evenly.
  • Spacing – give your logos plenty of clearance to the next logo – white space highlights logos effectively.
